SAT-04 The Spire of Iron & Crystal (Swords & Wizardry/OD&D)
Posted: April 26th, 2010, 7:56 pm
For centuries, out in the wilderness beyond civilization’s reach, there has stood an enigmatic tower known as the Spire of Iron and Crystal. It is a bizarre and ancient structure; four massive, egg-shaped crystals are mounted into a twisting, ornate structure of rounded metal girders, one crystal at the top and the other three mounted lower down. Moving lights seen inside the huge crystals suggest that they are hollow and even inhabited, but no one has ever discovered the secret of how to enter them.
That is until now. You and your companions believe that your researches, combined with a secret stolen from the temple of Ptah have given you the knowledge you need to enter the spire. But only when the stars are right, and only for three days. Will bold hearts and quick swords find riches undreamed in those three shorts days? Or only madness and death...
SOI&C is a "tournament module" for 4-6 mid-to-high level characters in the grand old-school tradition. Pre-generated characters will be used, the party will have a specific mission, and be working against the clock. The rules in use will be Swords & Wizardry, a retro-clone of Original Dungeons & Dragons (the "White Box"), as modified by my own idiosyncratic house rules (again, in the finest of old-school traditions).
If you'd like to take a trip back to the origins of the RPG, and have the stomach to bet everything on your wits and the roll of die, then this may just be the game for you...
