SAT-03 Monster Draft (playtest) (FULL)

Post by johnzo » June 10th, 2015, 11:48 pm

WHAT IS MONSTER DRAFT?
  • Weird fantasy post-apocalyptic sandbox hexcrawl.
  • Amnesiac monster soldiers, abandoned by their mind-controlling overlord, wander scrambled landscapes.
  • Sandbox = no play agenda imposed by game except that you start hungry.
HOW DO YOU PLAY?
  • Character powers and abilities are drafted from a small but colorful set of cards.
  • Map and encounters are designed in play using a novel card oracle. Questionable outcomes are governed by draws from the same oracle.
  • We all play monsters, we all GM. Each region on the map has its own GM.
WHY PLAY MONSTER DRAFT?
  • Evocative oracles and detailed procedures are designed to teach GMly improvisation and judging skills.
  • Built for maximum participation: everyone has a role in every scene. Trying to break away from RPG-as-series-of-one-on-one interactions.
  • Card-driven character creation and programmed scenario startup lead to very fast game startup times; ideal for convention or one-shot play.
This is a playtest, but the play materials have been under development for quite awhile and are very polished.
