SUN-02 Monster Draft (FULL)
Post
by johnzo » June 26th, 2016, 6:07 pm
WHAT IS MONSTER DRAFT?
- Weird fantasy post-apocalyptic sandbox hexcrawl.
- Amnesiac monster soldiers, abandoned by their mind-controlling overlord, wander scrambled landscapes.
- Sandbox = no play agenda imposed by game except that you start hungry.
HOW DO YOU PLAY?
- Character powers and abilities are drafted from a small but colorful set of cards.
- Map and encounters are designed in play using a novel card oracle. Questionable outcomes are governed by draws from the same oracle.
- We all play monsters, we all GM. Each region on the map has its own GM.
WHY PLAY MONSTER DRAFT?
- Evocative oracles and detailed procedures are designed to teach GMly improvisation and judging skills.
- Built for maximum participation: everyone has a role in every scene. Trying to break away from RPG-as-series-of-one-on-one interactions.
- Card-driven character creation and programmed scenario startup lead to very fast game startup times; ideal for convention or one-shot play.
This is a very late playtest. The game will be commercially available early next year.

Sounds cool--I'll take that last slot if it's still free! Anything I should do before we play? Should I check out the rules or character creation or anything?

JustusGS: thanks for asking! No, no preliminary work is necessary. MD is a show-up-and-play game -- we make our characters and setting as we play.

(Don't know if you're waitlisting, but if you are I'd like to be on it)
Cheers,

Colin--
I think that I will just facilitate/teach this game, not play it, which opens up a chair for you!
