We're a couple of nonbinary game designers. We've made some games exploring experiences surrounding nonbinary gender identity, set in a world of magical undead — who are basically normal people like us — where most folks have, for as long as anyone can remember, identified themselves as either a Zombie or a (flesh-clothed) Skeleton. Some folks, however, identify as Living — and mainstream undead society isn't set up to recognize, understand, or respect that, let alone embrace and celebrate its Living members.
Ages 18+ This is a first round of playtests for these games.
Zombinary Sampler provides an introduction to this world through a series of games: Zombinary Dance Party, Zombinary Parents, and Zombinary Gathering.
Zombinary Dance Party introduces the traditional undead status reveal parties, thrown by the recently-raised to inform their friends about what they've discovered in themselves. Zombies shamble, Skeletons dangle, and those who are still wondering about their status do some mix of each, trying to work out what feels right to them.
Zombinary Parents has groups of two or three of players exploring what it might be like to have raised the dead (created a child together) only to discover that they identify as Living. Play a series of scenes informed by random events in your Living offspring’s day-to-day experience.
Zombinary Gathering brings together the Living for an hour of camaraderie and mutual support. Characters are given a variety of life events to inspire play, most of which have nothing whatsoever to do with their Living status.
